What Stops Gey Hey from Winning the NSMQ?

Wesley Girls High school, Cape Coast, has been a well-known name when education is discussed in Ghana. The school has produced a number of valuable citizens as their school itself continues to hold enviable positions annualy in the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination school rankings. In 2013, they were overtaken, but dropped to no other position than second, when other 'giants' in Ghana education were nowhere to be found, even among the first fifty schools. But whether premier or not, Gey Hey has never won the annual National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ)
.
There are other schools that cannot boast of such an achievement, but Gey Hey's inability, throughout these years, to claim at least one title still raises questions that I do not think have been answered. Rumours continue to spread, and insinuations continue emerging from baseless arguments about the ingenuity of excellence, attributing it to unfair means of writing their exams. This, according to some people, is the sole reason for their excellence, coupled with strict discipline (quite contradictory right?).

My eyes have not overlooked though, many cartoons in high school magazines, portraying the Gey Hey girl as a believer in leaked questions, popularly known as "apo".

And what put piles on the agony, asserting the views of these debaters is what lies in block letters above--their inability to win the NSMQ. At least, they could disprove the veracity of the existing fact that no girls' school in Ghana has ever won the contest by setting the first example--winning the quiz.

But a question springs up here: Can a skillful player always display his skills perfectly without making mistakes? No one is infallible or let me say no school is, for people make up a school. There have been equally great names that have even won the contest before, some several times but where are they now? Maybe Gey Hey's fallibility is best portrayed during external contests.

Whatever happens, the question is still unanswered. Maybe we should wait to witness an astonishing victory this year.
