IF YOU SHOULD STUDY AT LEGON

Every human being has a desire. Be it positive or negative, everyone harbours in his or her mind something that he or she would love to see happen in their lives. Students have aspirations, workers have dreams; the latter works for both, too.

For the boy or girl who would be successful through education, all of its processes must be passed through successfully. Strife for academic excellence has made attending university inevitable, and Ghana’s premier university has been a dream for many senior high school students.
“Legon” has been its informal name, for that is its location, and the University of Ghana, simply “UG” being heard is as uncommon as water in the desert.
Many would want to tread the streets of Ayido, do some research at the Balme Library, attend some conferences at the great hall and of course, not miss the soothing breeze that continually blows through campus. Legon’s streets are boulevards with trees on either side of them. They tower the roads and provide shade everywhere.

You could take a stroll after a week’s busyness and have a drink at Tyme Out or any other restaurant on campus. If the cost is too high, don’t forget the night market is there for you. The Accra mall is just a few distance away and all the great events in Accra, you won’t be missing, just as you won’t be missing the lectures of some of the greatest professors in the world, yada yada yada!
But who said Legon is full of enjoyment only? Hard work is a virtue here. Guess you’ve heard many stories right? Come and confirm them yourself. It is when you get to the university that you realize you are on your own and know the company you keep. In the end, you might be getting a ‘D’ while your colleague miscreant who had a method to his madness would be having an ‘A’ without writing a paper!
If you’ve not observed university lifestyle before, then let me give you inkling. What you call ‘what’s up’— what you show your contemporaries as the new trend—is history. It’s just like graduating from junior high and seeing things of JHS as ridiculous. Who cares about the temerarious acts you enjoy doing? If you can’t obey simple instructions when confined, how can you obey them at a place where you do not take an exeat before going out? And finally, every little attention you refused to pay at SHS would be regretted.
So what do you think? Should we go to Legon? Then finish writing those notes and submit your assignments. Excel in WASSCE and be rest assured of your admission. Anyway, I never told you I’ll be at Legon so I can’t tell you “meet me there!”
